O concelho da Maia goza de uma excelente localização na zona metropolitana do Porto, aeroporto e diversas vias rápidas.
Nas últimas duas décadas, o Município da Maia registou indicadores significativos para o crescimento demográfico, habitacional e económico da Área Metropolitana do Porto. Em 2005, a população da Maia atingiu aproximadamente 130.000.
Maia foi também em 2014 a "CIDADE EUROPEIA DO DESPORTO". Este ano acolheu milhares de atletas e onde se realizaram eventos desportivos e culturais diversificados, com destaque para a apresentação e encerramento realizados no Complexo Municipal de Ténis da Maia. Durante este ano, destacamos o Seminário Internacional e o Karate Shitoryu com Shihan Mizuguchi Hirofumi, com a organização responsável pelo CCDMAIA.

The municipality of Maia enjoys an excellent location in the metropolitan area of Porto, airport and various highways.

In the last two decades, the Municipality of Maia registered significant indicators for the demographic, housing and economic growth of the Porto Metropolitan Area. In 2005, the population of Maia reached approximately 130,000.
Maia was also in 2014 the "EUROPEAN CITY OF SPORTS". This year it hosted thousands of athletes and where various sporting and cultural events were held, with emphasis on the presentation and closure held at the Municipal Tennis Complex of Maia. During this year, we highlight the International Seminar and Karate Shitoryu with Shihan Mizuguchi Hirofumi, with the organization responsible for CCDMAIA.

Este aeroporto foi projetado para ser facilmente expandido. Atualmente é o melhor aeroporto de Portugal em termos de espaço no aeroporto.
Em termos de carga aérea e movimento de passageiros, é o segundo maior em Portugal (à frente de Faro e atrás de Lisboa).
Recentemente o Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro foi premiado como o melhor do mundo na categoria de aeroportos com até 5 milhões de passageiros.
